MATS Bootcamp June Assignment: Wall Art with a Nautical theme

Wall art ... AGAIN~!

I have not yet found a proper approach to handle wall art.  Fortunately, this time, it is not necessary to make any collage (I truly need a lot of effort to put and paste together the various papers, textures, objects, etc.).

I have not spared much time in the Mini (except the quick doodle), therefore, I do not have icons to assemble to make the final piece.

The very original idea was to make "A ship in a bottle".  I was thinking to put a secret message / paper in a bottle, but then, when I saw my fellow Bootcampers are creating whales, jellyfishes, sailors, etc., I have decided to join them to have fun.

I do not want to set my scene up deep down in the ocean.  I think it will be romantic to put a couple (of cats) in a ship (in fact, it is only a wooden boat) under a clear, beautiful blue night sky.  Stars shine from over the top, the big moon as the backdrop.  It is a hot night in the mid-summer.  The night was originally quiet, but hey it is summer, it should be fun!  Fishes, jelly fishes, crabs, shrimps, and whales all come out to party!  I particularly love the jelly fishes' synchronized swimming :-) Even though it is mid-summer, it is COOL!  So, I have decided the title to be "Keep Cool in a Hot mid-Summer's Night".  Stay cool, however excited you are!

The very first quick doodle.

Family portrait

Recently I have been commissioned to draw a portrait for a family. My client is from Italy and she has found me from Instagram and connected with me via Facebook. She wants a family portrait in my style. She has given me full freehand. Haha, I hope she will not regret it!

I think it will be rather boring if it is just a normal family portrait - Dad and Mom holding the kids in their arms and stare into the front (like looking at the camera for a photoshooting) ... Cheers! No, no, I don't like it (well, I did not ask my client if she dislikes it too). In my first attempt, I have decided to convert this lovely family into a Monster Family (yes, my client may start to regret at this point). All dressed up like dinosaur- or crocodile- look monsters. This is the first concept. I will come up with one to two more, so my client can choose (yes, it is important to have choices. I personally hate to be given no choice).

A lovely family has become a monster family! :-)

Just shared the draft with my client. I am happy that she likes it (no, she did not kill me). This is encouraging indeed. I am brainstorming other crazy ideas for the other options to present to her.

What would you create for this lovely family: a loving couple, and their 3yo girl and 1yo boy?
